Trees marked for thinning in the Ashland Watershed

Ashland Watershed Thinning Project
The City of Ashland is planning a substantial thinning project in the lower watershed this spring. You'll notice many marked trees in the lower watershed next time you go out riding, running, or hiking. RVMBA is aware of the project and has been advocating to minimize the impacts for trail users, but this project will lead to trail closures and disruptions around Late March - Mid May. Specifics are not currently available, but we are working closely with project managers to ensure trails access whenever possible.

From the website:
"We will try to avoid as much disruption to recreation as possible. The busiest trails are the priority for staying open and being re-opened. That includes BTI, Jabberwocky, Alice in Wonderland, Bandersnatch, Red Queen, and Snark…among others in that general area. During some of the operation, the Ashland Loop Road to White Rabbit Trailhead will also close due to trees being cut on the roadsides and the helicopter removing cut logs. Though trails downhill and west from White Rabbit Trailhead will be closed, traffic going uphill to Lizard, Caterpillar, and further south will be open when the Loop Road is open at the gate just above Morton Street, and as accessed from Four Corners and Toothpick Trail.

Trails in Siskiyou Mountain Park will also close, including White Rabbit, Mike Uhtoff, and Queen of Hearts until work is completed and all trails are inspected for safety. The closure period will last as long as the work is ongoing, which is subject to weather and operations. Plan on trails being closed for 3-6 weeks, depending on the trail.

Updates will be posted regularly on the City’s web page News section, and on this website."

New RVMBA "Trail Builder" Hats

Thanks to funding from REI, we were able to make RVMBA trail builder hats from Flow Factory.  We've got a super limited, super sweet hat designed by @flowfactorynw and generously provided by @rei Medford. The design is inspired by Jabberwocky trail. And we want to get one into your hands if you are a regular trail day volunteer. Here's how:

  • Be or become a member of RVMBA.

  • Sign in and volunteer at 3 trail work days this year.

That's it! And if you earn one, be sure to wear it into REI Medford and thank them for their support of our RVMBA community!

Thank you Ashland ACE Hardware!

Special thanks to Ashland ACE Hardware for their donation of trail building tools. Trail building can be quite tough on our tools and our supply was starting to look quite ragged. Thank you for your donation and come check out the new tools on our next trail work day!
